Our Visual Arts staff recently attended the opening night of the Mosman Youth Art Prize. Organised by Mosman Council the event, which is celebrating its 30th year, aims to encourage the creative talents of young, aspiring and emerging artists whilst providing a showcase for their works. It was initiated in 1988 by the internationally renowned artist and local resident Ken Done AM.
The Prize is open to all young people aged 12-21 years and is one of the richest Youth Art Prizes in Australia. Ken Done was there to commemorate the occasion and present the awards. The atmosphere at the event was buzzing. There were many wonderful art works from students of many schools through NSW.
We had a number of entrants exhibited from Stella including: Anna B, Isabelle B, Yinghui (Grace) C, Alyssa D, Erin F, Abby J, Alicia M, Maisie N, and Natalie T.
A huge congratulations to Alyssa D who won 3rd prize for the portraits of her Grandparents, and also Yinhui (Grace) C and Alicia M who both won a celebratory prize from Ken Done.
The various portraits entered by our students are curated in what appears to be a ‘Stella Corner’: Four of our works, as well as a wonderful portrait drawn (whilst here at Stella) by an ex Stella student, Sienna C. It was a pleasure to see all the talent in an exhibition space, and a unique experience for our students.
If you are interested in visiting the exhibition, it runs until the 15 April at the Mosman Art Gallery and Community Centre, 1 Art Gallery Way, Mosman.
