A talented group of Stella Maris musicians and singers from Years 8-12 recently went on tour to the State of Hawaii where they performed as part of both the Honolulu Festival and the Hawaii Music Festival.
With ten performances across six days of the tour they were kept very busy. Their performances included: Choir and Band performances at Ala Moana Shopping Centre, ‘Iolani High School Band Exchange, appearances at the Honolulu Festival Conference, choir exchange with Aunty Nola at the University of Hawaii, band clinic at the University of Hawaii with Dr Boeckmann and so much more.
When they visited ‘Iolani High School for the High School exchange, they were stunned with the quality and quantity of their Concert Bands. They had so much equipment the girls didn’t know what to play first! This was an eye opening experience for the younger girls in the group.
Their trip to the University of Hawaii gave them the opportunity to sing traditional Hawaiian Songs with the formidable Aunty Nola which was truly awe-inspiring and also to take part in a Band Clinic with Dr Boeckman which they thoroughly enjoyed.
The girls did a little time for some recreation and went swimming, surfing, and took a walk up the extinct Volcano Diamond Head and the Festival parade.
It was a fabulous trip which gave the girls some wonderful music experience in another country.
