On Monday (10 December) we had six Stella girls (Amy P, Sophie W, Sydney K, Lara W, Emily S and Holly W) representing the College in the Athletics Australian National Schools Nitro Final in Cairns. This is a prestigious team event where the schools have to enter athletes in a number of different events including 60m, 400m, 1000m, javelin, shot put, high jump, long jump and relays. Points are given for places in each event and the team with the highest points at the end of the carnival wins. The competition was fierce with the best school athletics teams from around Australia competing in these finals. The Stella team won the Senior division (17+) which is extraordinary as three of the six girls are Juniors. To take out this title the girls performed well in every event, finishing in the top five of every event, including a number of first places.
In addition to this outstanding team success we also had a great representation of students in the NSW team at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships also in Cairns. We had five students (Sophie W, Emily S, Sydney K, Lara W and Amy P) in the NSW team competing in their individual events. This is an incredible achievement and shows just how much talent we have here at the College. All of these girls had great results at these national titles, most notably Sophie who finished with a silver and bronze medal in her events, and Lara who finished with a 4th and 5th place.
Congratulations to all six girls who represented Stella at these events. Your commitment and dedication to your training has paid off and the College is very proud of your efforts.
