Supporting Stella

There are a number of ways ex-students are welcome to reconnect with the College. If you would like to be involved in any of the following activities, or have another suggestion, then please email Donna Stimson, the Ex-students Association Coordinator.

Mentoring

Would you like to help one of our girls to make the transition from school student to university student or employee? We can put you in touch with girls interested in your career who would benefit from your support. Are you still at university or just recently graduated? Perhaps you could talk to a girl who hopes to enter the same course or the same university as you?  One of the biggest fears many young people have is of making the wrong decisions about what to do when they leave school. It’s very beneficial for the girls to hear stories from ex-students who have successfully changed careers or whose lives have gone in unexpected directions.

Mentors typically make contact via email or a quick phone call. You don’t have to live close-by to be a mentor.  The degree and duration of support  may be one email or phone call to answer a simple question or it can grow into a personal meeting, work experience, an internship, or employment. It’s up to you. Mentoring is a very satisfying experience.

Email Donna if you would like to go on the list of Mentors. Let us know the industry in which you work, your current role and what study you have done since leaving school. Try this, “Hi, I’m a doctor and I’d love to help another girl who is considering medicine as a career.”  or “Hi, I’m a media presenter and I can mentor a girl who wants a career in media.”  or “Hi, I’m a designer and I have a lot of contacts if any girl is considering it as a career.” It’s that easy to get started!  Initially, the Careers Advisor will contact you if a student has a particular query that you might be able to answer. You will always be asked for your approval before you are put directly in touch with a student.

Plenty of Ways to Support the Stella Community

  1. Would you like to coach a sporting team or a debating team?
  2. Does your business have any opportunities for current students to get some work experience?
  3. Can you place a current student as part of her community service component?
  4. Are you looking to employ someone? Could that someone be a Stella Girl or a Stella Ex-student?
  5. Would you like to visit a class to speak about your area of expertise? Business? Hospitality? Entertainment? History? Sport? Service industries? Something else?
  6. Do you have a high level of skill or knowledge in any area that would be of interest to the girls and that you would like to share with them at an Assembly or a Year Meeting?

Email Donna if you are interested in becoming involved with the College in any way.

Bursaries and General Donations

Donations of any amount are always appreciated. Your donation will be put to very good use improving the amenity of the facilities, purchasing additional teaching and learning resources or contributing to the building fund.

Whilst it remains a core policy of the College that we be as accessible as we can possibly be to everyone, Stella is an independent College and sometimes, when life circumstances take an unexpected downturn, the necessary fees prohibit some daughters of ex-students from continuing their enrolment at the College. If you would like to contribute to a bursary fund to help a student remain at Stella please email Donna to find out how.

Building Fund donations are tax deductible but at this point other donations are not tax deductible.
