Year 9 were privileged to attend Suitcase Stories, a production put on by refugee children who have recently arrived in Australia from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Cambodia. Whilst some of their stories were humorous, many retold the dangers they and their families lived through including bombings in market places and abduction by the Taliban. We were touched by their bravery and ability to perform their story in English after only living in Australia for a short time.
“I found Suitcase Stories extremely inspiring. I think it is so important for us to realise that there are people our age who are refugees and struggle with finding somewhere safe to live. The stories were balanced between being really moving and others were really funny. It was a great experience to be able to watch them tell their stories and for us to understand what they have been through. Overall, I came away realising how fortunate I am to have a safe home and a good education.” – Tilli, Year 9
