It has been a very busy but very successful past few weeks for the Stella athletics team! We have had teams competing at the NSW Athletics School Relays, the BBSSSA Athletics Championships and the Sydney Nitro Challenge, all out at Sydney Olympic Park.
We had amazing results at all carnivals:
NSW Athletics School Relays:
This is a carnival where all events are in the form of relays. Our team came away with lots of medals, many of them GOLD. This means we are state champions in the following events:
Open 4 x 400m, Open 4 x 100m and Open Throws.
We also had many silver and bronze medals at this event. They were Open Jumps (Silver), Junior Throws (Silver), Junior Jumps (Silver), Junior sprint medley (Bronze).
BBSSSA Athletics Championships:
45 Stella girls competed at the BBSSSA Championships. It was a freezing cold day, and our girls did well to achieve such great results in the poor conditions. We had nine students who won their event, so they have progressed through to the NSWCCC Championships in September. Well done to those nine girls and a particular mention goes to Emily S and Lara W who were age champions! Lara W also broke the 13 year 200m record!
Well done to many girls who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their events.
Sydney Nitro Challenge:
We had two teams (a total of 13 girls) attend this event. With an impressive line up of 65 teams from over 25 schools across Sydney, it was always going to be a big ask for our girls to place. Our Junior team did very well giving their competition a run for their money and our Open team WON their division with a narrow win over Pymble Ladies College. This is an incredible achievement as the competition is fierce with many prestigious schools from around Sydney competing. Congratulations to all 13 girls who competed in the two Stella teams and in particular the six girls in the Open team. We are so very proud of you!
Congratulations to all of the Athletics girls who participated in the above three events. Your dedication and hard work to training and your teams paid off!
