In the July holidays students from all the Good Samaritan schools in Australia gathered at St Scholastica’s in Glebe. Ministry Outreach provided us with the opportunity to be able to venture out into our local community and immerse ourselves in new experiences. These experiences pushed us out of our comfort zones and allowed us to connect with people who we would not usually interact with. Throughout the week we participated in a variety of different activities where the main focus was service. Each group visited two service sites, spending two days at each. This allowed us to more fully understand the different demographics of people in our society and to appreciate that everyone has the ability to have autonomy over their lives, promoting dignity and respect for all. Overall, we can’t recommend this experience enough as it has allowed us to understand how we can be an active member in our community and how to imitate Jesus’ model of servant leadership. – by Ella, Emily, Annabelle, Holly and Jas.
