Carla Krnel was among 120 students from around Australia who recently travelled to Canberra for the National Schools Constitutional Convention. The Convention explored a new constitutional preamble for Australia and after hearing from a panel of experts, Carla and her fellow delegates voted in a mock referendum.
The final document presented as a communiqué to the Senate, ‘acknowledged the commitment of Australians to the principles of equality, democracy and freedom for all’ and that as a nation we ‘stand alongside the traditional custodians of the land and recognize the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in shaping the Australian identity. Their sovereignty was never ceded.’ Our congratulations go to Carla on her involvement in such a significant event.
Carla has been an outstanding ambassador for the College. This photo shows her speaking at a function last year for the 100th commemoration of the Armistice.
